Today (February 27), the Shanghai Jiading Fudan International Education and Technology Innovation Center was officially launched. One year after Fudan University and Jiading District signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement, the two sides have achieved new outcomes and opened a new chapter in university–local collaboration, focusing on innovation synergy, industrial cooperation, and talent cultivation.

Fudan University President Jin Li; Jiading District Party Secretary Xiao Wengao; District Mayor Gao Xiang; Fudan University Executive Vice President Xu Zheng; Jiading District Executive Deputy Mayor Lu Zufang; Deputy Mayor Zhu Xiaojie; Head of the United Front Work Department Tang Xiaolin; and Fudan University President’s Assistant Peng Huisheng jointly unveiled the plaque.

At the ceremony, the first batch of educational cooperation programs and research platforms to be established at the Center were simultaneously launched, including the School of Continuing Education (Jiading), the Institute for Aging Studies (Jiading), the Institute for Space Internet (Jiading), and the Center for Digital-Intelligent Health and Governance Innovation.

In his remarks, Jin Li stated that the University will take the official launch of the Center as an opportunity to encourage and support more high-level research platforms and innovation teams to establish themselves in Jiading, integrate organically into Jiading’s new science and innovation development tracks, and effectively serve the District’s future industrial layout. The goal is to “cultivate a group of talents, bring in a team, incubate a project, and drive the development of an industry cluster.” At the same time, the University aims to attract leading international research institutions, innovation centers of multinational enterprises, and high-level overseas talent teams to Jiading, making the Center an important node connecting Shanghai—and even the Yangtze River Delta—to the global innovation network. It will also serve as a high-level hub for international talent cultivation and advanced research geared toward future industries. He expressed hope that both the District and the University would jointly build the Center into a model for the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent, contributing more to Shanghai’s efforts to become a globally influential center for science and technological innovation.

In his remarks, Xiao Wengao noted that over the past year since the strategic cooperation framework agreement was formally signed in February last year, close collaboration between the two sides has deepened and solidified university–local cooperation, yielding a series of encouraging results. As the new journey of the 15th Five-Year Plan period has fully begun, Jiading is striving to strengthen its roles as an important carrier of the Shanghai International Science and Technology Innovation Center, a leading zone for high-end industrial convergence, a demonstration area for coordinated and integrated regional development, and a key node for open innovation in the Yangtze River Delta. Jiading will continue to reinforce the leading role of scientific and technological innovation, intensify the implementation of its innovation-driven and talent-strengthening strategies, and deepen cooperation with top domestic universities such as Fudan University. It will accelerate the development of an innovation ecosystem anchored by high-level research universities, national research institutes, major R&D platforms, and leading technology enterprises, fully leverage its comparative advantages in scientific resources, industrial foundation, carrying capacity, and innovation environment, and promote the early emergence and efficient commercialization of more landmark and original major scientific achievements in Jiading, better supporting the development of new quality productive forces.

As a landmark project of high-level university–district cooperation, the Shanghai Jiading Fudan International Education and Technology Innovation Center was jointly initiated and established by Fudan University and Jiading District. Oriented toward internationalization, high standards, and functional integration, the Center aims to build a hub for international education innovation, a frontier science and technology R&D center, a demonstration platform for commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, and a global talent community. It serves as a key collaborative vehicle for Fudan University’s “Double First-Class” initiative and Jiading’s modern urban development.
At present, the Center’s core functional zone has been established in the Jiading Xindi Center. Focusing on Jiading’s distinctive industrial sectors—such as advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, and the low-altitude economy—it will explore an innovation and industrialization system integrating government, industry, academia, research, and application. The goal is to build a high-quality hub for the commercialization of research outcomes and a high-level international model for industry–city integration.
Leaders from relevant departments and schools of Fudan University, as well as officials from relevant commissions and bureaus of Jiading District, attended the event. Tian Mei, Chair of the Shanghai Jiading Fudan International Education and Technology Innovation Center and Director of the Center for Advancing Global Collaboration, presided over the launch ceremony. Gao Yue, Director of the Center and Dean of the Institute for Space Internet, introduced the Center’s overall situation and development plan.
On the same day, the inauguration ceremony of the Shanghai (Nanxiang) International Precision Medicine Innovation Center and the collective signing ceremony for key projects were held at Life Valley in Nanxiang Town. Jin Li, Xiao Wengao, Gao Xiang, Xu Zheng, Lu Zufang, Zhu Xiaojie, Tang Xiaolin, and Peng Huisheng jointly launched the event.
