“Fudan University International Education and Science & Technology Innovation Center” Officially Signed and Unveiled

    On July 11, the Fudan University International Education and Scientific Innovation Center, co-built by Fudan University and the Jiading District Government, was officially signed and inaugurated. Qiu Xin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Fudan University, and Xiao Wengao, Secretary of the Jiading District Party Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Jin Li, President of Fudan University, along with university leaders and Shanghai Medical College leaders Xu Zheng, Chen Zhimin, Zhu Tongyu, Chen Yan, and others, attended the event.

    During the ceremony, Qiu Xin pointed out that Jiading is an important functional area for advancing the Science and Technology Innovation Center, and Fudan University is a vital force in serving and supporting its construction. The International Education and Scientific Innovation Center inaugurated today is an innovative measure by the district and the university to jointly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech during his inspection of Shanghai and his important congratulatory letter to Fudan University. Qiu Xin put forward three expectations for the construction of the center: First, to create a new highland for talent cultivation. By aligning with the future development needs of Jiading, the center should attract and gather more high-level talents to start businesses and careers in Jiading through channels such as international cooperative education, international preparatory education, and the cultivation of outstanding engineers. Second, to create a new highland for innovation sourcing. Relying on the science and innovation platforms to be established at the Xindi Center, the center should focus on joint research to tackle key technical problems in Jiading's key industrial fields, such as the low-altitude economy and the silver economy, and accelerate the transformation and application of scientific research achievements. Third, to create a new highland for international cooperation. By giving full play to Fudan's international influence and Jiading's location advantages, and utilizing the internationalized spatial carrier and policy support of the Xindi Center, the center should attract international education and research institutions and enterprises to participate in its construction. Fudan University will fully support the construction of the center to boost Jiading's innovation capacity and promote higher-quality regional development through higher-level educational openness and cooperation, as well as the transformation of innovative achievements.

    Professor Tian Mei, Director of the Center for Advancing Global Collaboration of Fudan University, and Professor Gao Yue, Senior Advisor to the Center, Dean of the Space Internet Research Institute, and Vice Dean of the School of Future Information and Innovation, participated in the activity.

    Previously, on February 24 of this year, the Party Committee of Fudan University and the Jiading District Party Committee conducted a joint study session of their Theoretical Learning Center Groups at Fudan University. The two sides signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement committed to co-building the Fudan International Education and Scientific Innovation Center. On May 20, the Center for Advancing Global Collaboration of Fudan University and Jiading District jointly organized the Wisdom Gathering in Liucheng (Zhihui Liucheng) High-level Young Talents' Visit to Jiading. Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University; Xiao Wengao, Secretary of the Jiading District Party Committee; Gao Xiang, Deputy Secretary of the Jiading District Party Committee and District Mayor; Tang Xiaolin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jiading District Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department; Gan Zhongxue, Dean of the Institute of Intelligent Robotics of Fudan University; and heads of relevant departments of the university attended the event.

    In his speech, Xiao Wengao stated that looking toward the future, Jiading will implement the strategies of innovation-driven development and strengthening the district through talent with greater intensity. It will continue to deepen university-locality and institute-locality cooperation, accelerate the construction of high-level carriers such as the Jiading Science and Innovation Core and Juneng Town, and create more Science and Innovation Explosion Points in hard-core technologies and frontier fields. This aims to better promote the deep integration of scientific and industrial innovation, striving to shoulder heavy responsibilities and stand at the forefront of Shanghai's construction of a science and technology innovation highland.

    Chen Zhimin expressed that the cooperation between Fudan University and Jiading District has always taken innovation symbiosis and the integration of industry and research as its core. Looking to the future, Fudan and Jiading will be driven by the twin wheels of global vision and local cultivation, focusing on leading industries and accelerating the deep coupling of innovation and industrial chains. He hoped that through the Jiading Model of district-university collaboration, they could contribute wisdom and strength to China's realization of high-level educational openness and self-reliance in science and technology.

    Participants in this Wisdom Gathering in Liucheng High-level Young Talents' Visit to Jiading included both scientific research pioneers deeply involved in artificial intelligence and biomedicine, as well as technical leaders exploring flexible electronics and quantum sensing. Through methods such as the closed-door symposium on High-level Talents Empowering the Development of New Quality Productive Forces, Jiading industrial promotion, innovation forums, and field visits, the event allowed more high-level talents and young elites to gain a deep understanding of Jiading, while transforming academic breakthroughs into powerful momentum for driving new quality productive forces.
