Associate Vice President of EPFL Visits Fudan University

    On the morning of July 5, 2025, Professor David Atienza, Associate Vice President of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), visited Fudan University. Vice President Chen Zhimin warmly welcomed Professor Atienza's visit and introduced Fudan University's recent efforts in vigorously developing AI for Science and the interdisciplinary integration of science, engineering, liberal arts, and medicine. Professor Atienza also introduced EPFL's strengths in engineering, particularly in the interdisciplinary field of medicine and engineering, such as non-invasive brain-computer interfaces and wearable devices. Both sides expressed their commitment to establishing deep partnerships in education and scientific research.

    Professor Tian Mei, Director of the Center for Advancing Global Collaboration, Professor Shang Li of the School of Computing and Intelligence Innovation, and Professor Yang Fan of the School of Integrated Circuits and Micro-Nano Electronics Innovation, among others, attended the meeting.

    The École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), founded in 1853, is one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology. Located in Lausanne in the French-speaking region, its sister school is the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) in the German-speaking region of Switzerland. Many famous figures, including Turing Award winner Joseph Sifakis, Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner Jacques Dubochet, and Scala programming language inventor Martin Odersky, are alumni of the school. EPFL is ranked 22nd globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. In subject rankings, its disciplines such as chemistry, engineering and technology, materials science, data science and artificial intelligence, electronic engineering, natural sciences, chemical engineering, statistics, computer science, mechanical engineering, and physics all rank within the QS global top 20. EPFL possesses research facilities including the CROCUS nuclear reactor, the Tokamak Fusion reactor, the Blue Gene/Q supercomputer, and P3 biosafety laboratories.
